Chennai Port Trust is taking several initiatives to strengthen its capacity and gear itself up to face competition from other ports.  The Major activities being undertaken/ proposed  include the following :

 

(i)         Construction of Coastal berth at Chennai Port

(ii)        Construction of EXIM  Godown – 2 Nos. for storage of Export & Import cargo along with allied structure at Chennai Port

(iii)       Strengthening of Existing Revetment at eastern seashore of Chennai Port Trust

(iv)       Development of Common Railway Yard Inside the Port

(v)        Passenger Cruise Terminal 

(vi)       Solar Power Roof Top 400 MW

 

Funding of the above projects is through GBS, Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, Indian Coast Guard, International Funding Agency like BRICS Bank, JICA etc

Details of comparison with the current year

Increase in Operating income during 2014-15 & 2015-16 due to 42% hike of tariff for cargo related charges in October, 2014 and vessel related charges in January, 2015.

Decrease in projection of Operating income is due to revision of advalorem rate for wharfage on par with M/s. KPL, reduction in floating craft charges by 25%, 15% concession to container vessels, 35% - 55% concession to mainline container vessels w.e.fJanuary, 2016 and restoration of coastal rates in terms of rupees w.e.f. June, 2016.
