The Centre today approved road development and expansion projects worth over Rs 3000 crores in Chhattisgarh. The sanction was given at a significant meeting between Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh at the Ministry of Road Transport here. In the meeting, emphasis was been given on speedy completion of important road projects in Chhattisgarh.

During the meeting, consent was given on construct of an inter-change flyover worth Rs 95 crores at Raipur’s busiest Tatibandh Chowk, where five roads intersect. Proposal of constructing four-lane from Raigarh to Dharamjaigarh was also discussed at the meeting and the Union minister assured that the work for the same will start very soon.

The chief minister drew the attention of the union minister towards pending proposal of construction of bypass in 17 cities of the state and stated that these bypass will help in easing traffic. The union minister immediately gave instruction to senior officials of his ministry to look into the matter. Bypass have to be constructed at Bemetara, Simga, Bodla, Pondi, Kawardha, Masturi-Akaltara, Janjgir-Chaapa, Sakti, Raigarh, Kanker, Keshkal, Ambikapur, Sitapur, Pathalgaon, Baikunthpur, Saranggarh, Chandrapur and Akaltara.

Union Road Transport Minister also gave instruction on including 210 km-long worth Rs 6,600 crore Purur-Jhalmala-Kusumkasa-Sherpaar-Mainpur NH 930, Bilaspur-Mungali-Pandariya-Ponda NH 130 A and Abhanpur-Rajim-Gariyabandh-Devbhog Marg NH 130 C in Annual Plan 2018-19. The chief minister also urged the minister to sanction the state’s proposed estimate of Rs 803 crores under Central Road Fund. The union minister approved the estimate amount.

Dr Singh apprised the union minister of completion of WBM level work in construction of 36 km-long stretch between Bhopalpatnam and Tarlaguda in NH 202 crossing Chhattisgarh’s most Naxal-affected region. He asked the minister to give a go ahead for tar-coal work to which the union minister said that the work should be completed on priority basis.        

Road Transport and Highways Secretary Yudhvir Singh Malik and Secretary to CM Subhodh Kumar were present at the meeting.
