Performance of NIOS

NIOS has taken initiatives to improve quality and efficiency, such as development of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) to provide freedom to learners to study and get assessed anytime, anywhere, NIOS community radio offering special approach to community, setting up of more regional offices in North East and promotion of languages of north east, in-service training for elementary teachers, professional development programme of elementary education, equivalency programme for continuing education of neo-literates, development of language learning courses in Indian languages and educational and livelihood support to differently abled persons.
NIOS offers 96 vocational courses in the areas of Agriculture, Business and Commerce, Computer and Information Technology, Health and Paramedical Sciences, Home Science and Hospitality and Teacher Training through a network of 1400 Accredited Vocational Institutes across the country.
No funds have been allocated to NIOS during the last three years, as NIOS generates its own revenue to sustain its activities. Government evaluates performance of NIOS from time to time. NIOS undertakes research studies at intervals. However, no nation-wide study has been conducted.
