NIC meets to discuss commemoration of birth centenary of Biju Patnaik, Bismillah Khan, Amrit Lal Nagar, Smt. M S Subbulakshmi and 150th birth anniversary of Swami Abhedananda

A Meeting of the National Implementation Committee (NIC) held here today under the Chairmanship of Shri Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister to consider proposals regarding Commemoration of birth centenary of Shri Biju Patnaik, Shri Bismillah Khan, Shri Amrit Lal Nagar, Smt. M.S. Subbulakshmi and 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Abhedananda. Dr Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (I/C) and Civil Aviation and Ex-officio Member of NIC was present. The meeting was attended by Shri N.K. Sinha, Secretary, M/o Culture, Vice Chancellor BHU, Representatives of many organizations of the Ministry and NGOs and senior officers of Ministries of Culture, Finance, Information & Broadcasting.
The meeting was held to discuss modalities for these commemorations which are going to be celebrated during the current financial year. A number of proposals which have been received by the Ministry of Culture from various sectors were considered during the meeting and decisions were taken thereon.
Need for creation of infrastructure at the birth place of each personality was emphasized in the meeting in order to create a permanent remembrance of the personality.
The National Implementation Committee (NIC) was constituted in March, 2016 to chalk out the programme for commemoration of –
(1) Birth centenary of Shri Biju Patnaik ;
(2) Birth centenary of Shri Bismillah Khan ;
(3) Birth centenary of Shri Amrit Lal Nagar ;
(4) Birth centenary of Smt. M.S. Subbulakshmi ; and
(5) 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Abhedananda.
