Installation of Safety Devices on Public Transport Vehicles
The Government of India has issued draft notification number G.S.R. 478(E) dated 2nd May 2016, regarding fitment of Vehicle Location Tracking Device, CCTV Surveillance System and Alert Buttons on transport vehicles. According to this notification, it is compulsory for all transport vehicles to be equipped with vehicle location tracking device, CCTV based surveillance system, and one or more panic / emergency buttons which would be fitted by the manufacturer or their dealer or the respective operator.
A scheme, ‘Security for Women in Public Road Transport in the country’ was approved by Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on 02.01.2014 with the objective of providing safe and secure public road transport to people of the country, particularly to women and girl child in 32 cities in India having population of more than one million.
A contract was signed between Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit Systems Ltd (DIMTS) to provide Project Management Consultancy for smooth implementation of the project. Under this scheme, the following activities has been undertaken:-
(a) Concept Report, Technology Analysis Report, Detailed Specification document for GPS and detailed specification document for CCTV has been finalized.
(b) Draft request for Proposal for selection of implementation agency for design, implementation, operation and maintenance of the backend system for National Level vehicle Security & Tracking System and Draft Detailed Project Report has been submitted by Consultant.
