Conversion of Old Vehicles

The Government of India has formulated FAME – India Scheme [Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India] having thrust on allowing hybrid and electric vehicles to become the first choice for the purchasers so that these vehicles can replace the conventional vehicles and thus reduce liquid fuel consumption in the country from the automobile sector and the scheme has scope of providing demand (financial) incentive to the buyers of eligible xEVs (including retrofitment kits).

The Government has not defined the cost of conversion for old vehicle into hybrid / electric vehicle in this scheme. However, the Government is offering incentive in the form of front reduction of price to the consumer who buys electric/hybrid vehicles (including retrofitment kits) under this scheme, which is specified in the Gazette Notification S.O. 830 (E) dated 13th March, 2015 available in the website of Department of Heavy Industry [http://dhi.nic.in].

The Government has issued General Operating Guidelines for Registration of Automobile Manufacturing Companies and Vehicles Models for availing demand incentive under the Scheme.

This information was given by Minister of State in the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Shri Babul Supriyo in reply to a written question in the Lok Sabha today.
