Clarification of Sports Ministry on Two News Items published in a section of media
1. This is in reference to the news item “No female Physio for Indian wrestlers ”published in some newspapers on 14/7/2016 . it is stated that there is limitation on the number of support persons who can accompany the athletes by International Olympic Committee(IOC). As per IOC, the Contingent can only have 50% of the number of participating athletes, as support persons. However, Sports Authority of India (SAI) is making arrangement for female Physiotherapist to provide support to female athletes.
2. Another news item ‘Sprint Queen Dutee Chand has to muddle along to get new PSU job’ published in a section of Press on 14/7/2016.4 it is clarified that as per the news item Dutee Chand has been offered job of Assistant Manager in the Odisha Mining Corporation, a Public Sector Undertaking, of the Govt, of Odisha. Presently, Ms Dutee Chand is working as Traveling Ticket Examiner (TTE) in the Indian Railways. Ms Dutee Chand was contacted to ascertain the position. It has come out that Ms Dutee Chand is yet to submit resignation letter to the Indian Railways. The Department of Sports has spoken to Secretary, Railway Sports Promotion Board(RSPB). Secretary, RSPB has assured that the formalities relating to relieving of Ms.Dutee Chand from Indian Railways will be expedited once Ms Dutee Chand submits formal resignation letter.
