India’s approach to climate change negotiations at Lima, Peru

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today gave its approval forthe negotiating position for the 20th Conference of Parties (COP-20) on climate change scheduled to be held from 1 to 12 December, 2014 at Lima, Peru.

CoP-20 is expected to focus on the elements of 2015 Agreement and Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs).

The approach seeks to protect the interests of the country in climate change negotiations based on the principles of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and it's Kyoto Protocol (KP).It would also enhance the solidarity among the developing countries on these issues.

पेरू की राजधानी लीमा में जलवायु परिवर्तन वार्ता को लेकर भारत का दृष्टिकोण

प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेंद्र मोदी की अध्यक्षता में आयोजित हुई केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल की बैठक में पेरू की राजधानी लीमा में 1 से 12 दिसंबर, 2014 तक आयोजित 20वीं कॉन्फ्रेंस ऑफ पार्टिज (सीओपी-20) में जलवायु परिवर्तन पर वार्ता स्थिति को अपनी मंजूरी दे दी है।

ऐसी उम्मीद है कि सीओपी-20 में 2015 एग्रीमेंट और इंटेन्डिड नेशनली डिटरमाइंड कंट्रीब्यूशंस (आईएनडीसी) के तत्वों पर ध्यान केंद्रित किया जाएगा।

जलवायु परिवर्तन पर वार्ता पर सरकार का रुख देश के हितों को सुरक्षित रखने वाला है जो कि युनाइडेट नेशन फ्रेमवर्क कंवेन्शन ऑन क्लाइमेंट चेंज (यूएनएफसीससीसी) और इसके क्योटो प्रोटोकॉल (केपी) के सिद्धांतों पर आधारित है। इससे इन मुद्दों पर विकासशील देशों के बीच एकजुटता में भी वृद्धि होगी।
