Supply of Paddy and rice to Travancore Palace (Extinguishment of Rights and Liabilities) Act, 1976

(Act 31 of 1976)

    An Act to provide for the extinguishment of the rights and liabilities in respect of four thousand paras of paddy, one hundred and ten paras of Njavara rice and one and a half paras of Oora rice to the Travancore Palace

    Preamble. - Whereas in Order G5-18313/49/CS dated 12th December 1949. the former Government of Travancore-Cochin had ordered that a quantity of four thousand paras of paddy, one hundred and ten paras of Njavara r1ce and one and a half paras of Oora rice would be supplied to the Travancore Palace annually for the use of the former Maharaja of Travancore and the Palace in view of the Kandukrishi lands hav1ng been surrendered to Government,

    And Whereas for giving effect to the policy of the State towards securing the pr1nc1ples spec1fied 1n clauses (l3) and (c) of Article 39 of the Constitution of India It is necessary to provide for the extinguishment of the rights and liabilities in respect of the sard paddy and rice,

Be it enacted 1n the Twenty-seventh Year of the Republic of Indra as follows --

1. Short title and commencement. - (1) This Act may be called the Supply of Paddy and rice to Travancore Palace (Extinguishment of Rights and Liabilities) Act, 1976

(2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 20th day of April 1972.

2. Extinguishment of right of supply of paddy and rice. - Notwithstanding anything contained in any other law for the time being in force, or in any contract or other document with effect on and from the commencement of this Act, all rights, liabilities and obligations in respect of the four thousand paras of paddy, one hundred and ten paras of Njavara rice and one and a halt paras of Oora rice supplied annually by the Government to the Travancore Palace for use of the former Maharaja of Travancore and the Palace, 1n pursuance of the Order of the former Government of Travancore-Cochin No G5-18313/49/CS, dated the 12th December, 1949, shall stand extinguished, and accordingly no paddy or rice in pursuance of the sard Order shall be supplied to the Travancore Palace

3. No compensation to be payable. - Notwithstand1ng anything contained In any law for the time being in force, or in any contract or other document, no compensation shall be payable to the former Maharaja of Travancore or the

Travancore Palace for the extinguishment by section 2, of the rights in respect of the paddy and rice mentioned m that section.
