MATERNITY BENEFIT (ASSAM AMENDMENT) ACT, 1983

ASSAM ACT NO II OF 1984

    An Act further to amend the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 in its application to the State of Assam.

    Preamble:- Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 (Central Act 53 of 1961), hereinafter called the principal Act, in its application to the State of Assam, in the manner hereinafter appearing;

    It is hereby enacted in the Thirty-fourth Year of the Republic of India as follows.--

1. Short title, extent and commencement:- (1) This Act may be called the Maternity Benefit (Assam Amendment) Act, 1983.

(2) It extends to the whole of the State of Assam.

(3) It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.

2. Amendment of section 5 of Central Act 53 of 1961 (as amended by Assam Act XII of 1964):- In the explanation appended to subsection (1) of section 5 of the principal Act, as amended by the Assam Act XII of 1964, the word "six" appearing after the words "multiplied by" shall be substituted by the word "seven".
