THE CALICUT UNIVERSITY (ALTERNATE ARRANGEMENT TEMPORARILY OF THE SENATE AND SYNDICATE) ACT, 2018

ACT 30 OF 2018

    An Act for the alternate arrangement temporarily of the Senate and Syndicate of the Calicut University.

    Preamble —Whereas, it is expendient to make provisions for the alternate arrangement temporarily of the Senate and Syndicate of the Calicut University;

BE it enacted in the Sixty-ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows:—

1. Short title and commencement.—(1) This Act may be called the Calicut University (Alternate Arrangement Temporarily of the Senate and Syndicate) Act, 2018.

(2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 21st day of November, 2017.

2. Special provision for alternate arrangement temporarily of the Senate and Syndicate of the Calicut Universitv.—(1) Notwithstanding anything contained in the Calicut University Act, 1975 (5 of 1975) or in any statute, regulation, ordinance or rules made thereunder or in any judgment, decree or order of any court, in the case of the Senate and Syndicate of the Calicut University, the term of office of which expired prior to the date of commencement of this Act, the functions of the Senate and Syndicate of the said University shall be exercised by an interim body nominated by the Government under sub-section (2) for a period of eighteen months or till the reconstitution of the Senate and Syndicate in accordance with the provisions of the Calicut University Act, 1975 (5 of 1975), whichever is earlier.

  (2) The Government may, by notification in the Gazette, nominate an interim body consisting of the following members to exercise all the powers and perform all the functions of the Senate and Syndicate of the sud University:— 

1. Ex-officio members of the Syndicate.

2. Nominated members:

(i) A teacher of the University;

(ii) A teacher of a Government College affiliated to the. University:

(iii) One Principal each from the Government Colleges and Aided Colleges affiliated to the University;

(iv) Two ‘teacher representatives from the Aided Colleges affiliated to the University;

(v) One student from the University or from the Government or Aided Colleges affiliated to the University;

(vi) Six eminent persons working in the education sector, of whom one shall be a woman and one shall be a person belonging to the Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes.
