THE ASSAM SPEAKER'S SALARIES AND ALLOWANCES ACT, 1958

ASSAM ACT XXV OF 1958

    An Act to fix the Salaries and Allowances of the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Ammbty

    Preamble:-WHEREAS it is expedient to fix the Salaries and Allowances of the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly in the manner hereinafter appearing ;

    It is hereby enacted in the Ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-

1. Short title and commencement.-(i) This Act may be called the Assam Speaker's Salaries and Allowances Act, 1958.

(ii) It shall come into force with dfect from the 1st April, 1958.

2. Salary of the Speaker.-There shall be paid to the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly a Salary of rupees one thousand yer mensem.

3. Residence of the Speaker.-(i) The Speaker shal be provided with a free-furnisheu residence with grounds appurtenant thereto in Shillong throughout the year, and also at any other plare which the State Governrn ent may, from time to time, for the purpose of this Act declare to be the headquarters of Government, for so long as such declaration remafas in force or at a place where the Assam Legialative Assembly meets.

(ii) Such residence and the grounds appurtenant thereto, shall be maintained at the public expense which shall not exceed the amount prescribed by rules:

Provided that if the Speaker does not occupy the free-furnished residence provided by the Gove,rnment, a house rent allowance at the rate of rupees two hundred and fifty per mensem and such service allowances as may be prescribed by rules shall be paid in lieu of such residence.

Explanation.-For the purpose of this section the expression "the public expense" shall include such expenses as may be prescribed by rules.

4. Conveyance and Conveyance Allowance tor the Speaker.-(i) The State Government may, from time to time, purchase and provide suitable conveyance for the use of the Speaker and may, by rules, provide for their maintenance and repair.

(ii) The Speaker shall further be entitled to a conveyance "llowance of rupees two hundred per mensem :

Provided that if the Speaker chooses to maintain his own car he shall be entitled to a conveyance allowance of rupees three hundred per mensem.
