THE ASSAM MUNICIPAL (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1996

ASSAM ACT NO. III OF 1997

    An Act further to amend the Assam Municipal Act, 1956.

    Preamble:- Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Assam Municipal Act, 1956, hereinafter referred to as the principal Act, in conformity with the provisions s o f the Constitution (Seventy-fourth ° Amendment) Act, 1992, in the manner herein after appearing;

    It is hereby enacted in the Forty-seventh Year of the Republic of India as follows :-

1. Short title, extent and commencement:- (1) This Act may be called the Assam Municipal (Amendment) Act, 1996.

(2) It shall have the like extent as the principal Act.

(3) It shall come into force at once.

2. Amendment of Section 15:- In the principal Act, in section 15, in clause (ix), in the first paragraph, for full stop (.) at the end, colon (:) shall be substituted and there after the following provision shall be inserted, namely :-

"Provided that no person shall be disqualified on the ground that he is less than 25 years of age, if he has attained the age of 21 years".

3. Repeal and Saving:- (1) The Assam Municipal (Amendment) Ordinance, 1996 is hereby repealed.

(2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken under the Ordinance so repealed shall be deemed to have been done or taken under the corresponding provisions of this Act.
