THE ASSAM LOCAL BOARD ELECTTONS (EMER· GENCY PROVISIONS) ACT, 1953

ASSAM ACT IV OF 1953

    An Act to provide for the postponement of Local Board Elections.

    WHEREAS it is expedient to postpone the Assam Local Board Elections due to be held before the 1st April, 1953.

    It is hereby enacted as follows:

1. Short title, extent and commencement. - (1) This Act may be called the Assam Local Board Elections (Emergency Provisions) Act, 1953.

(2) It shall have the like extent as the Assam Local Self-Government Act, 1915.

(3) It shall come into force at.once.

2. Postponement of Election:-  Notwithstanding anything contained in section 9 of ·the Assam Local Self-Government Act, 1915, or in the Assam Local Board Elections (Emergency Provisions) Act, 1950, the Local Board Elections due to be held before the 1st April, 1953 may be postponed by order of the State Government for such period as they may deem necessary:

Provided that such period shall not extend to a date later than the 31st March, 1954 .
