THE ASSAM LIQUOR PROHIBITION (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1956

    An Act further to amend the Assam Liquor Prohibition Act, 1952.

    Preamble.—Whereas it is expedient to amend further the Assam Liquor Prohibition Act, 1952 (Assam Act I of 1953), hereinafter called the Principal Act in the manner hereinafter appearing ;

    It is hereby enacted in the Seventh Year of the Republic of India as follows :—

1. Short title, extent and commencement.— (1) This Act may be called the Assam Liquor Prohibition (Amendment) Act, 1956.

(2) It shall have the like extent as the Principal Act.

(3) It shall come into force at once.

2. Amendment of Section 2 of Assam Act 1 of 1953:- For sub-Section (3) and the explanation below it in Section 2 of the Principal Act the following shall be substituted, namely :—

“ (3) Liquor means any intoxicating liquor and includes all liquid consisting of or containing alcohol also Tari containing alcohol and Pachwai in any form and any substance which the State Gover nment may, by notification, declare to be liquor for the purpose of this Act;

Explanation— (i) This definition shall not apply to hny toilet pfe paration o r me dicine con tain ing alcohol.

(ii) Tari in an unfermehted stage is not included within the term liquof find is exem pted from the operation of this Act"
