THE ASSAM FAMINE RELIEF AND INSURANCE FUND (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1959

ASSAM ACT IV OF 1959

    An Act further to amend the Assam Famine Relief and Insurance Fund Act, 1948.

    Preamble.-WHEREAS it is expedient further to amend the Assam Famine Relief and Insurance Fund Act, 1948 (Assam Act XXVIII of 1948), hereinafter called the principal Act, in the manner hereinafter appearing ;

    It is hereby enacted in the Tenth Year of the Republic of India as fllows :-

l. Short title, extent and commencement.- (1) This Act may be called the Assam Famine Relief and Insurance Fund (Amendment) Act, 1959.

(2) It shall have the like extent as the principal Act.

(3) It shall come into force at once.

2. Amendment of Section 3 of the Act.- ln Section 3 of the principal Act, item (iii) shall be deleted and item (iv) shall be renumbered as item (iii).

3. Amendment of Section 4 of the Act.- In Section 4 of the principal Act, for the words "And thereafter, an annual contribution of not less than rupees one lakh shall be provided under '54-B-Transfer to Famine Relief Fund' to which shall also be transferred the unspent balance, if any, at the end of each financial year, under '54-A-Famine Relief'." the following shall be substituted, namely:- "And thereafter an annual contribution of rupees twenty-five lakhs shall be provided under '54-B.-Transfer to Famine Relief Fund'."

4. Amendment of Section 6 of the Act.- In Section 6 of the principal Act, for the word "shall" the word "may" shall be substituted.
