THE ASSAM DEPUTY SPEAKER'S SALARY ACT, 1948

Act No. 08 of 1948

    Whereas provision has been made by sub-section (4) of section 65 of the Government of India Act, 1935, as adapted under the India (Provisional Constitution) Order, 1947, for the determination of the salary of the Deputy Speaker of the Provincial Legislative Assembly by an Act of the Provincial Legislature;

    It is hereby enacted as follows:--

1. Short title Commencement:- (1) This Act may be called the Assam Deputy Speaker's Salary Act, 1948.

(2) It shall come into force at once.

2. Salary of Deputy Speaker:- There shall be paid to the Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly a salary of rupees three hundred per mensem.

3. Prohibition against practising any profession, drawing salary as member, etc:- The Deputy Speaker shall not,

(a) during the tenure of his office for which he draws salary, practise any profession or engage in any/trade or undertake for remuneration any employment other than his duties as Deputy Speaker, and,

(b) while he draws salary for his office, be entitled to any salary as a member of the Assam Legislative' Assembly.

4. Traveling and/daily allowances:- The Deputy Speaker shall be entitled, while touring on public business, to travelling and daily allowances at such rates and upon such conditions as may be determined by rules by the State Government.

5 - Repeal:- The Assam Deputy Speaker's Salary Act, 1937 (Assam Act III of 1937), is hereby repealed.
